When we develop friendships, we intend for them to last. But since two
fallen human beings are involved, occasional hurt feelings and unmet
expectations are likely. If one or both people simply ignore the offense,
the relationship can be damaged.
Repairing a troubled friendship requires humility to admit our faults,
effort to fix the problem, and time. But the reward is a renewed
connection with a valued companion. The process of saving a friendship begins
when you acknowledge that damage exists. This takes place the moment
you say, "I feel something isn't right in our relationship. I'd like for
us to find and fix the problem."
It's helpful to work together to assess how the trouble began. Perhaps
it resulted from a misunderstanding, an unresolved conflict, or one
person's busyness. After recognizing the problem, apologize for your part
in it. Taking responsibility and saying "I'm sorry" shows your love and
commitment to the friendship. Remember that an essential aspect of
apologizing is refusing to justify wrong actions or blame others.
An apology must be followed up with amends. Ask your friend what
specific action you both can take to rebuild the relationship. Then commit to
follow his or her suggestion while occasionally asking, "How am I
doing?"
Rather than waiting until their relationship is in trouble, wise
friends will go through these steps as soon as they're aware of having hurt a
loved one. Preventative care can soothe minor scrapes before they
become serious wounds.

Stars filled the room as I sat in awe
After opening the lid to the box I saw
It sat all alone in the room upstairs

And she said one day I would know what it means The years flew by and the stories forgotten
As I grew to a woman and left fantasies behind
Momma left one night as she slept in her bed
Without mentioning the box where her dreams she left I stood alone in the room upstairs
Fascinated by the box that she'd left for me there
Inside lay pictures, mementoes, and jewels
Along with a note, with my name in gold It was filled with love and memories
Of a child and a loving family
And I realized with tears in my eyes
That the magic she left was in my mind

I hope your coffee is hot and tastes just right and the cats are purring contentedly, and the mailman waves a cheery hello and there are no bills in the mailbox... I hope that your day is filled with lovely surprises and friends call you up just to say "Hi"... I hope you feel on top of the world with a spring in your step all day... I hope just everything goes your way ... I hope everything is well with your world, a place for everything and everything in its place... I hope you can enjoy all you do and you are complimented on the way you look and you can laugh and talk and share to your heart's content... Caught Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus On a small sand island he is caught. Not a bush nor even a blade of grass to hide him. He stands tall on hind legs sniffing, squinting through small black eyes. “ Is that big blue boat a threat? Must be! I gotta get outta here,” or thoughts to that effect in bear language. The Christian, a sailing boat, lined with children, slowly approaches as the black bear ambles into the water and begins swimming toward the nearest island for shelter. Amid oohs and ahs and quiet wonder, we sidle up to the slowly swimming bear. He’s scared. He’s at our mercy. He’s vulnerable. We stay 20 feet away. We don’t want to scare him too much. He’s out of his element swimming to the safety of the island. It is a rare opportunity to be so close to a swimming bear. The children hang over the rail encouraging him. “Keep swimming.” “Go for it!” “you’re almost there.” “You can make it.” Fingers point. Eyes dance. Life long memories are made. I’m glad. These VBS children have another good memory of Vacation Bible School on board the Christian tucked away in their hearts for future enjoyment. So too, the VBS Crow Children at Crow Agency, Montana, have similar good memories tucked away in their hearts for their future memory as they had experienced Digger and his Quest for Truth. Sometimes we’re the bear, you and I, Which of us has not felt the fear of impending crisis like—stress, finances, health, marriage or any number of crises with our options disappearing. We may want to give up the race and drop out. That’s the time to launch out into the unknown—as maybe the Crow VBS children did with our eyes on Jesus. The Christian ship filled with children alongside was there to watch and encourage. And so was the missionary team from Our Savior there to watch and encourage the Crow children at their VBS. Christ and a great cloud of witnesses in heaven and on earth are alongside to watch over and cheer us on as we move through this life toward the safety of Heaven. Let us pray: Dear Lord Jesus, sometimes we are frightened of the problems looming over us. Help us to see your presence and to hear the encouragement of those who have gone through it all before us. Help us to keep our eyes on the goal before us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
